In the recent years Germany has often been the host of big international sport events. More and bigger international sport events are held in several cities throughout the country. One of the high lights of 2017 will definitely be The IHF Women's Handball Championship. The 23rd event hosted by the International Handball Federation, will be held in Germany from 1st to 17th December 2017.
The tournament is scheduled to be played in six German cities where 24 teams from all over the world will compete against each other.
In addition to host Germany, the reigning world champion Norway, is set as defending champion. Already qualified are Denmark, the Netherlands and France.
The other competitors must qualify in championships and play-offs of their continental handball associations. The qualifying tournaments will be played until the end of June 2017.
Oldenburg (northern Germany; venue of the Danish Team), Magdeburg, Leipzig, Trier and Bietigheim-Bissingen (close to Stuttgart; venue of the Norwegian Team) will be the hosts for the preliminary round. The semifinals (14th+15th December 2017) and final (17th December 2017) are taken place in the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg.
One of Germany’s advantages is, that it is easy to reach by direct flights from all over Europe and it has a good developed touristic infrastructure: Hotels, restaurants, event location and uncountable opportunities of activities make the country to a popular business and event destination.
